I own a 2000-vintage, non-digital 8mm Sony camcorder. We don't use it very often, but I do have a fair amount of footage I'd like to transfer to my computer. How can I do this without resorting to expensive video capture hardware?
I found this device while looking for solutions; would this do the trick? TIA for advice and suggestions.

The Red Army Choir joins forces with Finnish rock group Leningrad Cowboys to sing . . . the Alabama national anthem. The only thing that could top this is the nuns from Sister Act dropping "Like a Virgin".
The young lady at the end of this video deserves to be buried in scholarships to the school of her choice. She positively drilled Detroit City Councilwoman Monica Conyers (wife of Michigan Congressman John Conyers) following an embarrassing incident during a City Council meeting in which Conyers referred to President Kenneth Cockrel Jr. as "Shrek". Later she met with some middle-schoolers to explain her behavior and got schooled herself. Watch the whole thing; it's awesome.

Bill Gates delivers his last keynote speech at CES as the head of Microsoft, and leaves with a hilarious and celebrity-packed video speculating on what his last day at the office might be like. Apparently these films are a hallmark of his CES appearances, but not having attended one, I can tell you this is a side of Gates I haven't seen before. (I have seen him speak in person, at an event at the Temple Buell Theater in Denver, and it wasn't nearly this amusing.)
I had the GMAC Bowl on the tube last night, mostly for background noise, as the game itself was a joke (as 63-7 blowouts tend to be). But I looked up just in time to see one play that made it all worthwhile. Check out this apocalyptic hit:

I guess Johnny Cash's birthday was just a few days ago, so this seems appropriate. Check out those horns!
